IRTA works to provide for the security and enhancement of your teacher pension at the State Capitol through legislative advocacy. IRTA opposes using pension monies for any purpose other than to pay pensions! IRTA has successfully lobbied for the cost-of-living (COLA) adjustments which benefit retired educators. In 1995, IRTA convinced the legislature to establish the Pension Stabilization Fund (now at $1.9 billion) which sets money aside for future pension payments.
